Parked by this homemade widebody bug sporting vintage Camaro wheels. I can’t hate it.
It looks like the plastic fenders and bumpers.were carefully cut, then re-attached with aluminum spacers. Taller spring, a more agressive offroad tire and something behind the gaps to keep stufffrom being flung through them and this would be perfect.

I like it, aside from the blacked out headlights.

My first reaction was horror, but more I look the more it becomes kind of cool.

Yeah, this is pretty sweet. If they put some plastic or whatever on it to fill the gaps and follow the curves of the body, it would be certifiably sicc. I also in general love when people tune a N ew B eetle- pretty much every Jetta or Golf part will work since they’re all the same car underneath. I kind of want a GTI swapped Beetle.

I love it. There’s a lifted TDI new beetle around my home town that I see from time to time.
These car’s were always meant to make people smile, glad to see some one has a sense of humor.

Too much money and not enough sense. The rear light bar and blacked out headlights tell me everything I need to know about the owner.

I like it, about 1% of it.

J ust buy a later 1.8t with the awp engine (180hp). Full bolt ons can get you to about 250hp and a K04 swap will get you even more.
Of course, it will still be a VAG product, so who knows how long it will last.
Al kidding aside, the 1.8t can nearly everything the 2.0t can do. It's not until you want to make serious power that the displacement can help. Even then, the 1.8t has made respectable power with enough money poured into it (over 1000).

Were they shooting for the “goth baseball” look?

My brother and dad have the 1.8t. I don’t love it. It makes too little power when off boost (which is all the time unless you mat the throttle with an auto) and getd not great economy if you keep it on boost all the time in a manual. It’s very torquey and fun if you beat on it, though.
And VW products are super reliable. Just don’t ask how much I’ve spent keeping my 22 year old Golf on the road in the last four months.

On th e lights? I still put the odds of them being popped off somewhere between zero and negative zero.

They render the lights 90% useless. My brother had them on his 93 Grand Prix. He had to take them off at night Altho I think sometimes he did just use is brights a

This thing trips my Trypop hobia. I'd add a picture as an example, but I'd probably pass out in the process.

I would add a contrasting color plastic to fill the gaps. Clear would be cool but hard to keep clean.

I’ll bet it whistles like a call iop e going down the freeway.
